Juve and inter target Afellay for sale

PSV Eindhoven have officially put Ibrahim Afellay on the market, sparking a bidding war including Inter and Juventus.

The Holland international midfielder had already been the subject of much transfer speculation over the past few months.

His contract expires in June 2011 and the club has now given up on getting an extension, so must sell in January to avoid losing him on a free transfer.

“PSV are ready to evaluate all possible options for the sale of the player, because we reached the conclusion that, for numerous different reasons, it is unrealistic to extend his contract,” read a statement.

Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool are also interested, but in Serie A Inter and Juventus are leading the race for the 24-year-old.

A January sale seems inevitable and the player “will do everything possible to avoid leaving PSV without a reasonable financial settlement.”
