Juve linked with Maxi Lopez

Juventus are seriously considering a bid for Catania striker Maxi Lopez in the January transfer window, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

Beppe Marotta is said to be planning Juventus’ winter transfer strategy and feels the team could do with an extra striker, even though a right-back and a centre-back are perhaps Gigi Del Neri’s greater priorities.

La Gazzetta understands such a move wouldn’t be a snub aimed at Amauri or Vincenzo Iaquinta, merely another reinforcement in view of Juventus’ efforts to go far in this year’s Europa League.

Earlier this week, Catania chief executive Pietro Lo Monaco said he wouldn’t sell Maxi until June, but there is a sense that he is open to offers if the price is right.

Maxi was a revelation last season, scoring 11 goals in 17 games following his move from Gremio in January, but he has only been on the scoresheet once in the 2010/11 campaign.
