Italy drop to 16th in FIFA rankings

Cesare Prandelli’s Italy have dropped three places in the latest FIFA rankings to 16th in the world.

The Azzurri’s stalemate with Northern Ireland and the suspension of their Euro 2012 qualifier against Serbia ultimately counted against them.

It must be said that the rankings are somewhat distorted as Italy only played one game between September 15 and October 20 instead of two like most of the other top teams.

That said, the fact the Azzurri could only draw with Northern Ireland, a team ranked 41st in the world, cost Prandelli’s side points in the rankings.

Now immediately in front of Italy are Slovenia, Chile, Norway, Greece and Egypt.

Unsurprisingly World Cup winners Spain top the rankings followed by Holland, Brazil and Germany.
