Diego set to stay at Juve

After weeks of speculation it seems that Juventus are prepared to keep faith in Brazilian playmaker Diego and take him off the market.

The 25-year-old has divided opinion in Turin and his qualities as a No 10 don’t appear to fit in with Gigi Del Neri’s plans for the team.

However, Del Neri has been very impressed with Diego during pre-season often using him as a second striker and considers him to be the team’s only difference-maker.

Juventus director general Beppe Marotta had toyed with cashing in on the former Werder Bremen star amid interest from several Bundesliga clubs.

Talks were held with Wolfsburg who made a €17m offer last week. However, when it emerged that Edin Dzeko wouldn’t be part of negotiations, the deal went dead even though Diego had agreed personal terms with die Wolfe.

Schalke Coach Felix Magath also ruled himself out of the running for Diego yesterday and Juventus responded by including him in their Europa League squad to face Sturm Graz.
