Real to replace Raul with Amauri?

Real Madrid apparently intend to replace their talisman Raul with one of three strikers, the most surprising of which is Juventus’ Amauri.

Marca understands Raul is very close to joining Bundesliga side Schalke and that Jose Mourinho has drawn up a shortlist of possible replacements.

Alongside Bayern Munich’s Mario Gomez and Werder Bremen’s Hugo Almeida is the name of Amauri, who scored just five goals last season.

Juventus are believed to be disappointed with the 29-year-old Brazilian after spending €22.8m on him in May 2008.

The Italian media insist that Juventus would be prepared to sell Amauri for three reasons.
First, Real Madrid would presumably be able to meet Juventus’ asking price. Second, Juventus would get Amauri’s hefty wages off their payroll and third, it would raise funds and ultimately make space for No 1 transfer target Edin Dzeko.

However, some of Juventus’ directors are said to be willing to give Amauri a second chance, partly because the entire team suffered last year and it can’t possibly get any worse
