Del Piero suffers muscle injury

Juventus captain Alessandro Del Piero has seen his pre-season training disrupted after suffering a muscle problem.

The 35-year-old striker slightly tweaked his groin yesterday and stopped working as a precautionary measure.

Juventus’ medical staff has prescribed one day of rest and don’t expect him to miss much more of training camp.

However, Del Piero is said to be concerned as these niggling injuries hampered his progress this time last year.

Del Piero didn’t actually score in Serie A last season until Juventus’ 21st game on account of his muscle and back problems.

Juventus’ new boss Gigi Del Neri is counting on him to be fit as the club expects to sell David Trezeguet this summer.
