The 2010-11 season has officially begun for Juventus after the squad met up in a Turin hotel last night.

A total of 22 players were present as they had their first contact with new Coach Gigi Del Neri following his arrival from Sampdoria.

Diego, Amauri and Jorge Martinez didn’t make it though after they had flight problems from South America. They will meet up with the rest of the players this morning.

The Bianconeri will all undergo medicals at some stage today before departing for their Pinzolo training base tomorrow.

They will hold their first training session of the season under Del Neri at some point on Saturday afternoon.

The squad is minus Italy’s World Cup players at the moment given that Leonardo Bonucci, Mauro Camoranesi, Giorgio Chiellini, Vincenzo Iaquinta, Claudio Marchisio and Simone Pepe won’t join up until July 18.

Gigi Buffon will undergo surgery which will keep him sidelined until 2011.

Portugal’s Tiago has until July 22 to recover from South Africa 2010, while a date for Brazil’s Felipe Melo has yet to be decided.

However, it remains to be seen how many players actually remain in Turin this summer given that new director general Beppe Marotta is busy buying and selling.

Squad for part one of pre-season…

Goalkeepers: Manninger, Storari, Costantino (Primavera)

Defenders: Alcibiade, De Ceglie, Ferrero (Primavera), Grosso, Grygera, Legrottaglie, Silvestri (Primavera)
