Juventus captain Alessandro Del Piero has toned down the comments he made yesterday, insisting that his side’s 2-1 victory over Atalanta was precious.

The veteran striker was initially keen to emphasise that the Bianconeri haven’t yet turned the corner after a dreadful run in which they lost three on the bounce.

However, since then he has expressed his satisfaction at the reaction his team-mates showed in difficult circumstances on Sunday.

Speaking to Juventus.com, Del Piero said: “We wanted to win at all costs and we managed to do it.

“I am happy that my goal was needed to get the three points. I cannot say that all our problems have been resolved, but it’s a victory that gives us enthusiasm.

“The objective of finishing in fourth place also ran through this victory and having won it allows us to continue fighting,” he concluded.

Juventus currently lie seventh in Serie A, three points adrift of the final Champions League place.

Alberto Zaccheroni’s side are back in action on Saturday when they travel to Udinese.
