Juventus captain Alessandro Del Piero says his side are in an emergency after last night’s 2-0 defeat to Palermo in Serie A.
The Bianconeri were absolutely woeful, leading Alberto Zaccheroni to claim that they couldn’t even hurt a fly.
Juventus dropped out of the top four again and have since been linked with a move for England manager Fabio Capello this summer.
“We have been in emergency on account of injuries and results for some time,” Del Piero lamented.
“This week Amauri also hurt himself. When you play three games a week you need everyone. Anyway we didn’t think that we were all in place and had finally resolved the problems.
“We have to give the right weight to this game. It’s not an alibi, but the defeat came after two very intense weeks. I am happy with the fact that the team tried to impose its play, we didn’t manage to do it because we were tired after Thursday’s game.”
Asked if he thought Juventus had run little, Del Piero replied: “In other games no, but this evening yes. But we need to give credit to Palermo who ran a lot and played well.
“From the first minute we tried to make a game of it. Palermo were prepared for the counter attack and suffered a lot at the beginning.
“We still have to work a lot, but we are already determined to get revenge in the next game.”
Finally Del Piero reflected on being left out of Marcello Lippi’s latest World Cup squad.
“My head and my thoughts are only revolving around Juve. Right now, I am only dedicating myself to Juve and only through Juve can a chance open up.
“I will await Lippi’s final decision in May,” he concluded.
