Del Piero: ‘I wasn’t sneaky’

Alessandro Del Piero knows how valuable this victory is for Juventus, but denies he was “sneaky” on the penalty.

The captain celebrated a record-breaking 445th League appearance for the club by scoring a brace in their 3-2 win over Genoa.

“It is a victory that means a great deal, even if to be honest in the circumstances we’re in right now every game feels like it’s potentially decisive,” said ‘Alex.’

“We struggled and will continue to struggle, because we cannot think that we’ve resolved our issues with this one match.

“The important thing is that it’s a signal for ourselves above all else and then a signal to those outside the squad.

“As for myself, I think it may well have been my best performance of the season so far.”

Genoa Coach Gian Piero Gasperini criticised the winning penalty, earned when Sokratis Papastathopoulos tripped Del Piero just outside the box, by calling it “sneaky.”

When told of this, the Juventus star insisted he played fair and square.

“It was a clear foul, there was no sneakiness involved at all. There were no complaints on the field at the time, everything was alright.”
